The work
Earth Stability was awarded this measure and value project through direct negotiation, with Total Ground Engineering appointed as engineer. The scope included design, construction and the required consents.
The structural works comprised 23 reinforced concrete piles, each 500mm in diameter and ten metres deep, 18 drilled and grouted tie-back anchors of ten metres, and a 30-metre reinforced concrete ground beam.
Decking, landscaping, planting and glass balustrade works were also completed as part of the reinstatement.
The large and complex slip followed a 2017 storm event and extended across two adjoining clifftop properties. The site is within a Significant Ecological Area and had extremely difficult access.
Earth Stability used its mini XD6 piling rig and spider cranes to access and undertake the works. The project was completed on time, to specification and on budget.
