The work
Pinesong was a measure and value project awarded to Earth Stability through competitive tender amongst invited specialist tenderers.
The project required the installation of 340 anchors — over 3,900 metres of drilling — together with 1,100m² of rock fall mesh, surface water drainage with rock-lined outlets, and extensive replanting of the slope on completion.
Access was extremely restricted. The works were carried out at a height of 20 metres over a vertical section of cliff with a 30-metre steep grade to the sea below, immediately beneath the five-storey apartment complex that the slip was undermining. The health and safety of employees and residents, and the sensitive coastal landscape, were paramount throughout.
Work was completed on time and to budget. Damir Soric of Soil and Rock Consultants, engaged by Metlifecare as designer on the project, said: “ESL’s work at Pinesong Retirement Village was overall exceptional, given the size and complexity of the project. Very good quality of work, effective listening to what we were seeking as designers and exceptional construction management led a difficult project to a successful completion within its deadline.”
