The work
Earth Stability was awarded this measure and value project through direct negotiation, with Intia appointed as engineer.
The work included a 40-metre palisade wall formed from 26 reinforced concrete piles, each 750mm in diameter and 8–10 metres deep, together with a 40-metre reinforced concrete capping beam.
The slope treatment included 70 drilled and grouted galvanised and epoxy-coated soil nails, plus 400m² of turf reinforcement matting overlaid with double-twist rockfall mesh. Earthworks, drainage, landscaping and planting were also completed.
The site is within a Significant Ecological Area above Hamilton Road Beach and reserve, an area heavily used by the public. A specific methodology was adopted to protect the sensitive environment while maintaining public safety and minimising disruption to people using the road below the work site.
The work was completed on time, to specification and on budget.
