The work
Earth Stability was awarded this measure and value project through direct negotiation, including obtaining and managing all necessary council consents.
The project required full-width stabilisation of the property, including 238 drilled and grouted 10-metre soil nails and 800m² of MacMat R mesh underlain with Biomac CJ450 membrane.
Lost land was reinstated using a combination of reinforced earth and retaining walls. The work also included a 25-metre timber pole retaining wall with tie-back anchors and the planting of 400 coastal native plants.
The private clifftop property sits at the southern end of Takapuna Beach and had experienced a landslide during Cyclone Gabrielle. Temporary works and protection measures were installed to safeguard the property's extensive landscaping during construction.
Because the public beach lay below the site within a sensitive coastal environment, the project required a detailed and carefully maintained methodology throughout. The work was completed on time, to specification and on budget.
